China, Czech Republic Seek Closer Ties with Mutual Commitments

🌍 In a high-stakes diplomatic move, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky at the Munich Security Conference, highlighting a push to revitalize bilateral relations—but with clear conditions.

Wang stressed that China is ready to deepen cooperation with the Czech Republic only if its 'core interests,' including adherence to the one-China principle, are respected. 'Rebuilding trust requires concrete actions, not just words,' he said. 🇨🇳🤝🇨🇿

A Legacy at Risk?

The Czech Republic was among the first to recognize the People’s Republic of China in 1949, but relations have cooled recently. Wang urged Prague to 'reflect seriously' on its approach to cross-strait issues and avoid undermining the 'political foundation' of ties.

Czech Side Responds

Lipavsky reaffirmed the Czech government’s commitment to the one-China policy and opposition to 'Taiwan independence.' He also highlighted the 2016 strategic partnership forged during President Xi Jinping’s visit, calling it a 'blueprint' for collaboration amid global trade tensions.

Both sides also discussed EU-China relations and the Ukraine crisis, signaling broader geopolitical stakes. Could this meeting mark a thaw? Only time—and actions—will tell. 💡
