Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi held talks this week to deepen bilateral cooperation, with a focus on driving economic stability and modernization in Somalia. The meeting highlighted China's commitment to supporting African nations through actionable partnerships.
Wang emphasized China's readiness to implement outcomes from the recent Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, including leveraging zero-tariff policies for least-developed countries. 'We aim to jointly advance modernization that benefits both sides,' he stated.
Fiqi praised China's role as a 'steadfast partner' in international affairs and reaffirmed Somalia's adherence to the one-China principle, opposing any actions threatening China's sovereignty. 'Our friendship is built on mutual respect and shared goals,' he added.
The talks also explored Somalia's participation in 10 China-Africa partnership action plans, covering infrastructure, tech collaboration, and sustainable development. Analysts say this could boost Somalia's post-conflict recovery while expanding China's role as a key player in African geopolitics.
