Chinese tennis players smashed their way into the spotlight at the Dubai Tennis Championships this week, with two powerhouse duos securing spots in the women's doubles semifinals!
Zhang/Mladenovic: Revenge Served Cold
Zhang Shuai (China) and Kristina Mladenovic (France) avenged last week's loss to Hungary's Fanny Stollar and Russia's Alexandra Panova in style. The pair blasted through the first set 6-2, then sealed their semifinal ticket with a 6-4 second-set victory. Next up: A showdown with Czech-American combo Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend!
Xu/Yang: Tiebreak Thriller
The all-Chinese team of Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan survived a rollercoaster match against Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva and Czechia's Linda Noskova. After splitting sets 6-4, 3-6, the decider went to a nail-biting super tiebreak where the Chinese pair clinched victory 10-8! They'll now face Latvian-Chinese Taipei duo Jeļena Ostapenko and Hsieh Su-wei for a shot at the finals.
With both teams still in the running, all eyes are on whether China can claim doubles glory in Dubai!
