Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region is setting the standard for environmental preservation, according to a new white paper released by China's State Council. Prioritizing harmony between humans and nature, Xizang has preserved 412,200 sq km of nature reserves and achieved a jaw-dropping >99% annual air quality rating since 2016!
From snow leopards to rare plants, Xizang hosts 1,072 wild vertebrate species and 246 protected animal species—making it a biodiversity hotspot. Over 10 million trees have been planted in rural greening projects, while Lhasa’s mountains now boast new forests covering 705,333 hectares. Talk about a glow-up!
But it’s not just about nature—95.4 billion yuan ($13.3B) has fueled eco-protection since 2018, creating over 500,000 green jobs yearly. "Conserving this plateau is our greatest gift to future generations," the report emphasizes, blending ecology with livelihoods.
