🌟 Autism Advocate Zhang Chengjing Builds Inclusive Future in China

When Zhang Chengjing’s daughter was diagnosed with autism in 2008, she faced a whirlwind of uncertainty. Fast-forward 16 years, and this mom-turned-changemaker has transformed her struggle into a thriving network of schools and vocational centers empowering individuals with autism across China’s Hebei Province. 🧩

Starting with one small special education school funded by selling her home and rallying donors, Zhang focused on early intervention. 'Seeing kids speak their first words… that kept me going,' she told CGTN. Now, her institutions offer rehabilitation, job training, and even respite spaces for exhausted parents.

Growing With the Community

As her students aged, Zhang expanded her vision: 'They deserve lifelong support.' Today, over 100 neurodivergent individuals learn practical skills – from daily tasks to employment-ready abilities – in her centers. During World Autism Awareness Day every April, Zhang organizes campaigns in Handan City to combat stigma. 💬

A Ripple Effect of Hope

Parents like Li Wei (name changed) say Zhang’s work is life-changing: 'My son learned to communicate here – it gave our family new purpose.' With vocational programs creating pathways to employment, Zhang proves that inclusivity isn’t just possible – it’s transformative. 🌈
