From Smoky Lamb to Skyr Delights: A Nordic Journey in Beijing

Imagine biting into tender smoked lamb from the Faroe Islands while hearing folktales of Greenland’s northern lights—all in the heart of Beijing! The 2025 West Nordic Day celebration, hosted by the Embassy of Iceland, transformed the Chinese capital into a vibrant hub of Arctic culture and culinary magic on April 10.
Teaming up with Greenland and the Faroe Islands’ representatives, the event served up more than just food: Think interactive VR tours of Iceland’s glaciers , traditional Inuit throat singing performances, and workshops on sustainable fishing practices. Foodies buzzed about artisanal cheeses, cloudberry jams, and playful skyr-based desserts inspired by TikTok trends.
“This is about sharing stories,” said Iceland’s ambassador, grinning beside a display of geothermal-heated bread. “From Arctic sustainability to Viking sagas, we’re bridging cultures one plate—and pixel—at a time.”
Tourism boards teased upcoming adventures: think ice cave treks in Greenland and puffin-spotting boat trips off Faroese coasts. For Beijing’s Gen-Z crowd, it was a tantalizing taste of #ArcticWanderlust.
