Hong Kong Approves 90% of Mainland Talent Applications in Two Years 🌏

Hong Kong has rolled out the welcome mat for professionals from the Chinese mainland, approving nearly 90% of over 53,000 applications under its talent admission scheme since 2022, according to the city's labor chief Chris Sun. 🌟 The initiative, aimed at boosting key industries like finance and trade, is part of the region’s strategy to fuel economic growth and global competitiveness.

Under the Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP), roughly 47,000 applications got the green light, with 54% securing long-term roles. Commerce, finance, and academic research topped the list of sectors hiring these talents. Meanwhile, the General Employment Policy (GEP) saw even higher approval rates: 94% of 67,000 applications were approved, with tourism, education, and finance leading the way. 💼

Salaries for incoming professionals spanned 20,000 to nearly 80,000 Hong Kong dollars per month (approx. $2,500–$10,250 USD), reflecting demand for high-skilled roles. Short-term contracts dominated both programs, with 70% of GEP positions lasting under a year. 📈

“These schemes are critical to keeping Hong Kong’s businesses agile and innovative,” Sun noted, emphasizing their role in addressing talent shortages. For young professionals eyeing global opportunities, this signals Hong Kong’s commitment to becoming a hub for cross-border career growth. 🌍✨
