Typhoon Co-May Batters East China Coast 🌪️

Typhoon Co-May, the eighth typhoon of 2024, slammed into Zhejiang Province early Wednesday, bringing fierce winds and heavy rain to China’s eastern coast. The storm made landfall on Zhujiajian Island near Zhoushan City at 4:30 a.m., packing winds of 23 meters per second (83 km/h) – strong enough to uproot trees 🌳 and disrupt travel 🚆.

China’s National Meteorological Center (NMC) warns Co-May could intensify slightly as it moves northwest at 10–15 km/h. A second landfall is expected later today between Ningbo (Zhejiang) and Qidong (Jiangsu), with wind speeds potentially hitting 28 m/s (100 km/h) – equivalent to a Category 10 tropical storm 💨.

While the typhoon is forecast to weaken after its second strike, authorities urge residents in coastal areas to:

  • Avoid nonessential travel 🚫
  • Secure outdoor objects 🪑
  • Monitor emergency alerts 📱

This storm comes as East Asia’s typhoon season peaks, with climate scientists noting increasing intensity in recent years. Stay tuned for updates! 🚨
