China has fired back at G7 nations and Western critics over their condemnation of Hong Kong's national security actions, calling the accusations “hypocritical” and “groundless.” The diplomatic clash comes after Hong Kong police issued arrest warrants for individuals linked to illegal election activities under the city’s national security laws.
Defending Sovereignty: The Legal Backbone
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stressed that Hong Kong’s law enforcement actions against overseas-based “anti-China forces” are fully compliant with the Hong Kong National Security Law and international legal standards. “These measures are lawful, justified, and necessary to safeguard stability,” he stated.
Double Standards Called Out
Lin accused unnamed countries of practicing “long-arm jurisdiction” while criticizing Hong Kong’s legitimate efforts. “This exposes their hypocrisy and double standards,” he said, urging foreign governments to stop supporting “destabilizing elements.”
The Chinese government reaffirmed its support for Hong Kong authorities in addressing threats to national security, emphasizing that external interference in China’s internal affairs is “unacceptable.” 🌐⚖️
