🌏 Bamboo & Corn: Bridging China & Latin America

What do bamboo and corn have in common? For Mercedes Fernandez, a Mexican PhD student at Beijing’s Communication University of China, these symbols became the heart of a bold vision for global harmony. Her poster, "Bamboo and Corn: A Shared Vision of Peace Between China and Latin America," merges cultural icons to celebrate cross-continental unity ahead of the UN’s 80th anniversary. 🌱🌽

"Bamboo represents resilience in Chinese culture, while corn is deeply rooted in Latin America’s history," Fernandez explains. "Together, they symbolize how collaboration can grow even in challenging soil." The artwork was submitted to CGTN’s "One Home: Shared Future" campaign, which amplifies youth perspectives on global issues like sustainability and cultural exchange.

As part of Gen-Z’s push for creative diplomacy, Fernandez highlights how art transcends language barriers. 🎨💡 "Young people are redesigning international relations through TikTok, murals, and memes," she says. "Why not use these tools to plant seeds for peace?"

With over 1.4 billion people in China and 650 million across Latin America, initiatives like this campaign remind us that shared values – from food security to climate action – can unite even the most distant neighbors. 🌐✨
