London Premiere Shines Light on WWII Heroism 🎬✨

History came alive in London this weekend as the European premiere of Dongji Rescue – a gripping WWII film – spotlighted an untold chapter of Sino-British solidarity. 🎥 Over 800 attendees gathered to watch the true story of Chinese fishermen who braved danger to save 300+ British POWs from a sinking Japanese ship in 1942.

When Courage Defied War

In October 1942, the Lisbon Maru, carrying British prisoners from Hong Kong, was struck by U.S. forces near China's Zhoushan Islands. Local fishermen, ignoring risks, sailed through conflict zones to pull survivors from the water. 🌊 "My grandfather owed his life to their bravery," said Anthony Jones, whose family member was rescued.

Bridging Histories, Building Friendships

Chinese Ambassador Zheng Zeguang called the film a testament to "shared humanity against fascism," while actor William Franklyn-Miller praised the fishermen's "unshakable courage." Audience member Alfie Howis admitted: "I never knew China played this role… it changes how we see WWII." 💬

Why This Story Matters Now

As the world marks 80 years since the defeat of fascism, Dongji Rescue reminds us how ordinary people shaped history. China's Eastern Front efforts were pivotal – a fact often overlooked in Western narratives. 🇨🇳🌍
