China Calls for Global Unity to Boost Multilateralism 🌍✨

China’s top legislator Zhao Leji has urged members of the Group of Friends of Neutrality to strengthen global governance and revive multilateral cooperation amid rising geopolitical tensions. Speaking at a virtual parliamentary leaders’ meeting hosted by Turkmenistan, Zhao emphasized the need for a 'people-centered approach' to tackle today’s challenges. 🗣️

Why It Matters Now

With 2024 marking the 80th anniversary of the UN’s founding and the end of World War II, Zhao highlighted that the world is at a crossroads. 🌐 “Multilateralism faces headwinds, but unity is non-negotiable,” he said, pitching China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI) as a roadmap for fairness and equity.

What’s the GGI?

The GGI joins China’s trio of global proposals—focused on development, security, and cultural exchange—to reshape international systems. Think of it as a ‘software update’ for global cooperation, prioritizing sovereign equality and rule of law. 💡

Turkmenistan’s Role

As a founding member of the Neutrality Group, Turkmenistan co-hosted the event, with Zhao reaffirming China’s commitment to deepening ties. 🤝 The two nations aim to build a “community with a shared future,” blending economic and diplomatic collaboration.

Zhao’s message? Legislatures worldwide must step up to drive reforms and uphold the UN-centered global order. 🌏 “The stakes are high, but so is our collective resolve,” he concluded.
