Beijing Commemorates 80 Years Since Taiwan’s Restoration 🌏✊

Cross-Strait Event Highlights Historical Unity & Youth Perspectives

Over 100 representatives from across the Taiwan Strait gathered in Beijing this week to mark the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China—a milestone rooted in the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. 🌸

Zheng Ping, president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, emphasized that international agreements like the 1943 Cairo Declaration and 1945 Potsdam Proclamation solidified China’s sovereignty over Taiwan. He also highlighted the island’s five-decade resistance against Japanese colonial rule as proof of its inseparable ties to the motherland. 📜

Stories of Resistance & Identity

Descendants of Taiwanese patriots shared powerful narratives. Lin Ming-cong, whose family led anti-colonial efforts in Wufeng, noted how sacrifices during Japan’s occupation (1895-1945) paved the way for Taiwan’s return. Meanwhile, student Lu Ying-chu recounted her great-grandfather’s defiance: preserving ancestral shrines and Hanfu attire under colonial rule. 🏮

Peking University student Lin Ching-mao stressed that commemorating this history counters 'Taiwan independence' narratives. 'It’s about reminding younger generations of our shared roots,' he said. 🎓

Why This Matters Today

The event, co-hosted by groups like the Beijing Taiwan Compatriots Association, blended historical reflection with calls for cross-strait unity. For young attendees, it’s a reminder that Taiwan’s story is intertwined with China’s—a message echoing through classrooms and cultural landmarks alike. ✨
