Nanjing Honors Massacre Victims on National Memorial Day 2025

🇨🇳 Nanjing residents gathered solemnly today to commemorate China's National Memorial Day, honoring approximately 300,000 victims of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre. This year’s observance carries special significance as it marks 80 years since the end of World War II.

💮 At the heart of remembrance: The national flag flew at half-mast at the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, a tradition maintained since 2014. Across the city, residents placed chrysanthemums – symbols of grief in Chinese culture – at historical sites and memorial walls.

🧱 One poignant ceremony unfolded beside Zhengjue Temple, where locals stood shoulder-to-shoulder along the ancient city walls that once witnessed unimaginable tragedy. “We come here every year,” shared one 24-year-old attendee, “to ensure history isn’t forgotten in the TikTok age.”

📅 With 2025 marking eight decades since WWII’s conclusion, memorial organizers emphasized youth engagement through VR exhibits and AI-powered historical recreations – blending tech with tradition to reach Gen-Z audiences.
