Curtain Rises on a Lifelong Passion
At 8 years old, Zheng Ying found her voice through Shanghai’s 2015 musical The Search of Sound – now she’s helping Gen Z performers rewrite the script of Chinese theater. 🎶 Twenty years later, the 28-year-old creative has traded childhood spotlights for guiding hands-on rehearsals as assistant director of the same production.
Breaking Boundaries On and Off Stage
Zheng’s journey wasn’t all standing ovations: "Choosing theater as my major felt like defying gravity," she laughs, recalling family concerns about career stability. But her persistence paid off – this year, she’s mentoring 15 young performers aged 12-17 across China, encouraging them to "make roles their own playgrounds." 🎪
Full-Circle Moment
From Shanghai studios to national stages, Zheng’s team blends traditional Chinese storytelling with TikTok-era spontaneity. "Theater isn’t about perfection," she tells wide-eyed cast members. "It’s about the courage to be gloriously, messily human." 💥 As opening night approaches, her childhood dream continues evolving – one fearless young performer at a time.
