Lhalu Wetland Breaks World Record as Highest Urban Wetland 🌍🏆

Xizang’s Natural Wonder Makes History

Move over, Everest Base Camp – there’s a new high-altitude star in town! 🌱 The Lhalu Wetland National Nature Reserve in Lhasa has just been certified as the world’s highest natural urban wetland by the World Record Certification Agency (WRCA).

At a dizzying 3,649 meters above sea level – that’s higher than most commercial flights! ✈️ – this 12.2 sq km ecological gem is now officially putting Lhasa on the map for climate warriors and nature lovers alike.

Why This Matters for Asia’s Ecosystem

The certification ceremony this weekend wasn’t just about plaques and photos. WRCA representatives emphasized that protecting urban wetlands like Lhalu is crucial for:

  • 🌬️ Maintaining regional air quality
  • 💧 Regulating water systems in the ‘Roof of the World’
  • 🦆 Preserving rare migratory bird habitats

Local environmentalist Tashi Wangmo told us: "This recognition helps global youth understand that environmental protection isn’t just about rainforests – it’s happening in our cities too!"
