New Year Message Stresses Peaceful Dialogue, Rejects Separatism
Mainland China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cross-strait relations and pursuing national reunification in 2026, as outlined in a New Year address by senior official Song Tao. The message comes amid renewed focus on regional stability in Asia this January.
Song, who leads both the CPC Central Committee's Taiwan Work Office and the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasized 'utmost sincerity' in pursuing peaceful reunification while firmly opposing any form of Taiwan independence. The remarks were published in the 2026 inaugural edition of 'Relations Across Taiwan Strait' magazine.
Three Key Pillars for 2026
- 📌 Implement updated policies for Taiwan relations
- 📌 Maintain one-China principle and 1992 Consensus
- 📌 Expand dialogue with Taiwan's political groups and civil society
Song specifically extended an olive branch to 'political parties, groups, and individuals of insight' in Taiwan, proposing cross-strait consultations under the one-China framework. However, he cautioned that 'no room will be left for separatist activities' – a clear reference to recent political developments in the region.
