A groundbreaking book titled "History and Facts of the South China Sea" launched in Beijing this week, presenting China's most comprehensive historical case for its sovereignty claims in the contested waters. Developed through a seven-year collaboration between scholars and maritime experts, this 2026 release combines ancient texts, maps, and post-WWII records to challenge what authors call "flawed international narratives."
Lead editor Wu Shicun revealed the project began in 2018 to counter overseas publications containing "errors and misconceptions." The work traces Chinese maritime activity back to several centuries BCE, highlighting 1946 reclamation efforts from Japanese occupation forces. 🔍 Historical receipts include:
- Analysis of continuous governance since ancient dynasties
- Post-war sovereignty reassertion documentation
- Responses to 1970s maritime law changes
Foreign Ministry representative Hu Wei emphasized at the launch: "China's rights were established through history, upheld by all governments, and recognized globally." An English edition is reportedly in development to amplify China's perspective worldwide.
