Guizhou’s Multi-Ethnic Communities Foster Unity & Growth 🌟

CPPCC National Committee member Cui Haiyang highlighted the power of multi-ethnic communities in bridging cultures and driving development during a group interview in Beijing this week. As a scholar of ethnic issues, Cui emphasized how shared spaces create opportunities for employment, education, and cross-cultural collaboration. 🌏

He shared the story of Yang Shuixing, a Bouyei ethnic woman relocated to Shiguang Village—a community where Han, Miao, Tujia, and other groups live side by side. Residents collaborate during harvests, support daily needs, and send children to modern schools, weaving a "tapestry of unity," as Cui described it. 📚

Guizhou’s success stories include the viral Village Super League (Cun Chao) and Village Basketball Competition (Cun BA), which drew global attention and boosted tourism to nearly 800 million visits in 2025. 🏀⚽ These events, Cui noted, showcase how cultural diversity fuels both local pride and economic vitality.

"Deep interaction doesn’t just strengthen bonds—it sparks innovation," said Cui, who belongs to the Korean ethnic minority and works at Guizhou Minzu University. His insights align with China’s broader efforts to promote ethnic unity while addressing regional development gaps. 💡
