China Slams US Trade Probe, Calls It ‘Protectionism’ 🌍⚖️

China has fired back at the United States over its latest trade investigation, calling the move a “severe disruption” to global commerce. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce criticized Washington’s March 12 Section 301 probe targeting 60 economies – including China – over alleged forced labor practices, just one day after launching another investigation into 16 economies for “overcapacity.”

The US claims these economies failed to ban imports made with forced labor, but China calls this a “fabricated” excuse for protectionism. Beijing emphasized its strict labor laws and status as a founding International Labor Organization member, while noting the US hasn’t ratified key forced labor conventions.

This clash comes as both nations hold economic talks in Paris this week. China warned the investigations violate WTO rules – referencing a previous ruling against US Section 301 tariffs – and could destabilize global supply chains. “The US is putting domestic law above international rules,” the ministry stated.

Beijing highlighted its 28 ratified labor conventions and comprehensive legal framework. Meanwhile, it accused Washington of using forced labor claims as a “political tool” while avoiding binding international commitments.

With both sides at the negotiation table, China demands the US “immediately correct its wrong actions” through dialogue. The ministry vowed to “take all necessary measures” to protect its interests if needed.
