Tai Po Fire Probe Begins: Key Hearings Launch in Hong Kong 🚒

Hong Kong’s independent committee investigating the deadly 2025 Wang Fuk Court fire launched its first public hearings today, marking a critical step toward accountability and fire safety reforms. The blaze, which claimed multiple lives and shocked residents, is now under intense scrutiny as survivors demand answers. 🔍

Chaired by Justice David Lok, the committee will hear testimonies from 38 stakeholders over eight sessions until April 2. Nearly half of the 360 daily public seats are reserved for displaced residents like Ms. Lee, who told reporters: "We need to know why the fire spread so fast and who’s responsible. Our community deserves closure." 🗣️

The probe, ordered by HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee in December 2025, aims to identify systemic failures and propose preventive measures. Key witnesses include government departments, former housing estate managers, and seven residents of the affected Wang Tai House. 📑

With a final report due by September 2026, this investigation could reshape fire safety standards across Hong Kong’s densely populated residential areas. Follow @NewspaperAmigo for live updates as testimonies unfold. 📲
