Shenzhen’s Wildlife Bridge Reconnects Nature in Urban Jungle 🌿🚗

In a concrete jungle where skyscrapers dominate, Shenzhen’s Kunpeng Trail No. 1 Bridge is serving as a lifeline for local wildlife 🦌. Completed in 2023, this innovative overpass now helps animals safely cross a busy highway that once divided their habitats – proving cities can grow with nature, not just over it.

Three years after its completion, the bridge has become a biodiversity hotspot, reconnecting Meilin and Yinhu mountains for the first time in decades. Over 90% of the structure features native plants and terrain-specific designs tailored to local species’ needs – think ‘animal urban planning’ at its finest 🏗️🌺.

"It’s like a green thread stitching broken ecosystems back together," says urban ecologist Dr. Li Wei, who’s tracked increased wildlife activity through motion-sensor cameras. The project reflects China’s broader push for ecological civilization, balancing rapid development with environmental stewardship.

For young environmentalists and city planners worldwide, this ‘wildlife expressway’ offers a blueprint: sustainable infrastructure can be both functional and Instagram-worthy 📸. As Eden Soto Alva reports from Shenzhen, sometimes progress means building bridges – literally – between our world and theirs.
