CCTV-9 Premieres Documentary on China-France Cultural Exchanges

🎬 From May 2 to 4 at 8:00 p.m., CCTV-9 is airing a captivating six-episode documentary series, \"The Story of the Foochow Arsenal,\" which delves into the little-known history of the Foochow Arsenal—the first French-style university in the Chinese mainland.

🇨🇳🇫🇷 The CGTN French channel and documentary channel will also feature segments tracing the legacy of the Foochow Arsenal and highlighting China's first group of students who pursued studies in France.

Established in 1866 through a collaboration between the Qing government and France, the Foochow Arsenal in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, became the cradle of China's modern maritime education and navy. It played a pivotal role in fostering China-France cultural exchanges by hiring French engineers and craftsmen and setting up schools for naval construction and apprenticeships.

The documentary not only revisits the stories of the first Chinese students sent abroad but also showcases priceless historical materials and uncovers artifacts from foreign museum collections for the first time. Featuring interviews with nearly 100 scholars and experts on the late Qing Dynasty, the series provides a comprehensive historical context for the influential role of the Foochow Arsenal.

✨ Don't miss this enlightening series that bridges cultures and shines a light on a significant chapter in China-France relations! 📺
