In the charming northeastern city of Miskolc, Hungary, a simple cup of tea is brewing more than just flavors—it’s fostering meaningful cultural exchanges. Fan Liyun, a 59-year-old Chinese teacher at the Confucius Institute of the University of Miskolc, has turned tea into a bridge between cultures.
Known affectionately as Kristi by her students, Fan has noticed a remarkable surge in interest this spring semester. \"We usually held activities to attract students before new semesters. But it seems it's no longer necessary as we almost had full enrollment before this semester started,\" she shares.
Since her arrival in 2019, Fan has seen the number of students in the institute double, a testament to the captivating allure of tea culture. Her engaging sessions and the serene ritual of tea drinking have made learning about Chinese culture both enjoyable and immersive.
Fan’s approach highlights the power of traditional practices in modern education, making cultural learning accessible and appealing to young minds. As the Confucius Institute continues to thrive, it stands as a vibrant hub for cultural exchange, all thanks to a cup of tea.
