Meet Kimi, an adult female green sea turtle who’s making waves in China's conservation efforts! 🐢 On May 23, 2018, the China Fishery Law Enforcement released Kimi back into the wild in Sanya, Hainan, marking a special World Turtle Day celebration.
Kimi wasn’t alone on this journey – four other adult sea turtles also sported satellite tracking devices on their shells. These high-tech trackers send signals every time they surface for air, helping researchers map out their migratory routes and better understand their behaviors.
By mid-June, Kimi had swum her way to the stunning Qilianyu Archipelago of the Xisha Xuande Islands. Her adventure didn’t stop there! By September, she reached the Huidong Sea Turtle National Nature Reserve in Guangdong, an area famed for its flat seabed and abundant food supply. This reserve is known as the last remaining nesting ground for sea turtles along China's extensive coastline, making it a vital haven for these majestic creatures.
Kimi's journey is a testament to China's ongoing commitment to protecting marine life and ensuring that sea turtles continue to thrive in their natural habitats. 🌊✨
