Urumqi Lights Up with Lantern Festival Float Parade 🏮✨

Urumqi’s streets transformed into a sea of color and rhythm this week as the city kicked off its annual Lantern Festival celebrations with a jaw-dropping float parade. Held on February 28, 2026—the 10th day of the Lunar New Year—the event saw thousands of performers in vibrant costumes dancing to traditional drumbeats, while towering floats adorned with intricate lantern designs dazzled onlookers. 🌟

The parade, a prelude to the full Lantern Festival on March 4, highlighted Xinjiang’s rich cultural tapestry. Uygur dancers twirled alongside Han-style dragon performers, symbolizing the region’s harmonious blend of traditions. One float, shaped like a giant panda holding a ‘Spring Blessing’ scroll, became an instant social media favorite. 🐼💫

Local resident Aisajan Yushan shared: “This year’s parade feels even grander—it’s like the whole city is one big family celebrating together.” With food stalls serving sesame balls and performances running late into the night, Urumqi proves traditional festivals remain at the heart of China’s modern cultural identity.
