Yi Teens’ Viral Folk Song Inspires Courage 🎶✨

In the heart of China's Daliang Mountains, two eighth-graders are making waves with their soulful rendition of a traditional Yi folk song. Mo Se Wusha and Ergu Wurimo from Xiangrong Middle School recently captivated listeners worldwide with their performance of Don't Be Afraid (Ajelu in Yi language).

The teens' crystal-clear vocals carried the ancient melody's message of resilience across social media platforms, earning over 2 million views in its first week. 🌄 Their performance, filmed against misty mountain backdrops, showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Yi ethnic group while speaking directly to Gen-Z anxieties about climate change and global uncertainty.

"This song has been in our families for generations," said 14-year-old Mo Se Wusha during a school interview. "We want young people everywhere to feel its power." The viral moment comes as China intensifies efforts to preserve ethnic minority cultures through digital platforms.

Cultural analysts note the timing aligns with growing youth interest in folk revival trends globally – from K-pop’s traditional fusion tracks to TikTok’s #FolkloreChallenge. 🎤 The school has since received partnership offers from music academies in Beijing and Chengdu to develop cross-cultural exchange programs.
