“Ferryman of Souls” Liu Dewen Returns 200+ Veterans’ Ashes to Chinese Mainland

Meet Liu Dewen, affectionately known as the \"Ferryman of Souls\" . For the past two decades, Liu, the chief of Xiangheli Village in Kaohsiung of the Taiwan region, has dedicated himself to a heartfelt mission: returning the ashes of over 200 veterans to their hometowns on the Chinese mainland.

In 2023, Liu achieved a significant milestone by helping Tang Yiqi, a veteran who left Sichuan Province more than 70 years ago, find his final resting place. Tang’s ashes were lovingly repatriated to his hometown, allowing him to be buried with the honor he deserves.
