Crisis Deepens in Gaza’s Largest Refugee Camp as Winter Rains Arrive 🌧️🧣

Living conditions at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) camp in southern Gaza have reached alarming levels, with overcrowding, scarce resources, and winter rains creating a 'perfect storm' of hardship for displaced families. Refugees fleeing conflict in northern Gaza continue to pour into the camp, stretching infrastructure beyond capacity.

UNRWA officials describe collapsing sanitation systems and shortages of food, blankets, and fuel. 'We’re witnessing children sleeping in flooded tents and families sharing single mattresses,' said one aid worker, speaking anonymously due to security concerns. The onset of cold weather has intensified health risks, particularly for infants and the elderly.

💡 Key challenges:

  • Displaced population doubled since October
  • Only 1 medical clinic per 10,000 residents
  • Fuel shortages limiting clean water access

Medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières reports a spike in respiratory infections and skin diseases. Meanwhile, aid organizations struggle with funding shortfalls and logistical barriers to delivering supplies through the Egypt-Gaza border.
