UN Commander Hails Chinese Peacekeepers as Key to South Sudan Stability 🌍✌️

🎖️ A top UN commander has spotlighted the critical role of Chinese peacekeepers in maintaining stability in South Sudan, calling their presence "fortunate" for the region. Lt. General Mohan Subramanian, Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), praised the China infantry battalion's "professionalism and dedication" in an exclusive interview with CGTN's Han Bin.

💬 "Their work under challenging conditions sets a high standard for peacekeeping missions," Subramanian said, ahead of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers on May 29. The day honors over 4,000 peacekeepers who have lost their lives since 1948.

🌱 Chinese peacekeepers have been instrumental in infrastructure projects, medical aid, and community engagement in South Sudan, where conflict has displaced millions. Subramanian emphasized their ability to build trust with local communities—a vital factor in de-escalating tensions.

👥 With over 2,000 Chinese personnel currently serving in UN missions worldwide, this recognition highlights China's growing role in global peacekeeping. As one young peacekeeper told CGTN: "We’re here to protect hope."
