In the frosty expanses of north China's Hebei Province, Su Yan and her all-women team are rewriting the rules of railway safety. Armed with heavy detection machines and unshakable grit, this eight-member 'Railway Girl Squad' patrols tracks year-round to spot flaws before they become hazards.
'Carrying 35-pound detectors in -20°C winds isn’t glamorous,' laughs Su Yan, 29, whose team covers up to 12 miles daily. 'But every crack we find could save lives.' Their work—critical for high-speed rail safety—has earned local admiration in a field traditionally dominated by men.
From summer heatwaves to frozen winter nights, the squad’s sharp eyes and teamwork keep China's bullet trains racing smoothly. 'We’re like track detectives,' says Su. 'Our machines beep, we analyze the data… then repair crews fix it fast.'
Next time you board a train, remember: heroes with wrenches and thermal mugs are keeping your journey safe.
