Black Cowboys Reclaim Their Wild West Legacy 🤠✨

Forget Yellowstone—Black rodeo cowboys are rewriting the script of the American West 🌵. Valeria Howard-Cunningham, president of the Bill Pickett Rodeo, told us: \"People think cowboys are only white. We’re changing that narrative.\"

Did you know nearly 1 in 3 cowboys during the 19th century were Black? Yet Hollywood and history books often erased their stories. Now, the Bill Pickett Rodeo—the nation's longest-running all African-American rodeo—is saddling up to celebrate this legacy with bull riding, barrel racing, and crowd-roaring shows 🐎💥.

Named after Bill Pickett, a Black rodeo legend who invented bulldogging (google it! 🔍), the event draws thousands to see modern-day Black cowboys and cowgirls shine. \"This isn’t just sport,\" Howard-Cunningham says. \"It’s about pride, family, and remembering who built this country.\"

Young travelers, take note: The rodeo’s 2024 tour hits cities from L.A. to Atlanta. Y’all ready to dig into this untold chapter of American culture? 🤠🎶
