In the fight against COVID-19, Chilean doctors Raimundo Gacitua and Carolina Selman Bravo are leading the charge with an innovative plasma therapy. 🦠💉 Working at the Arturo Lopez Perez Foundation in Santiago, they drew inspiration from Chinese researchers who successfully used convalescent plasma from recovered patients to treat those still battling the virus.
At the end of March, with vaccines and artificial antibodies still in the works, Raimundo and Carolina saw plasma therapy as a beacon of hope. Initially, they estimated needing around 100 plasma donors. However, the response was overwhelming, and the number of donors skyrocketed to 450! 🎉
One of these heroes is Luis Eduardo Salas. After recovering from COVID-19, Luis didn’t hesitate when asked to donate his plasma, demonstrating the community’s strong support for this life-saving effort. 🙌
Encouraged by the promising results from China, the team at Arturo Lopez Perez Foundation is optimistic that this therapy will significantly reduce COVID-19 mortality rates in Chile. Their dedication and the community’s generosity highlight the power of collaboration in overcoming global health challenges. 🌍❤️
