My Tibet Story: Photographer’s First Journey to Lhasa

Exploring the heart of Tibet, award-winning Spanish-Argentinian travel photographer Angel Lopez-Soto shares his unforgettable first visit to Lhasa. In 2006, Angel was among a select group of foreign journalists and photographers invited to experience the grand inauguration of the Beijing-Lhasa railway, a monumental feat of Chinese engineering.

One month after the official opening, Angel embarked on a special five-day journey organized by GW Travel, covering 1,956 km from Beijing to Lhasa in a luxury train equipped with an airplane-like oxygen system. This trip allowed him to witness firsthand the challenges and triumphs of connecting the bustling Chinese mainland with the serene landscapes of Tibet.
