Amsterdam's Grachtengordel neighborhood, also known as the Canal District, is a mesmerizing area that showcases the city's four main canals from the 17th century. 🌊🏰

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in August 2010, Grachtengordel is famed for its unique crescent-shaped waterways and picturesque rows of boathouses, attracting millions of tourists each year. Its enchanting beauty is a testament to Amsterdam's rich history and architectural prowess.

However, beneath the surface of this beautiful district lies a growing safety concern. The bridges and streets that span the canals are built on sturdy pillars, but decades of natural scouring have put at risk at least 10 kilometers of canal sides and six of the historic bridges. The structural integrity of these iconic landmarks is threatened, posing potential dangers to both residents and visitors.

Enter Jeroen Baars and his two dedicated co-workers, who are tirelessly working to reinforce and preserve these 17th-century constructions. Their efforts are crucial in preventing any calamity that could strike the beloved Canal District. 👷‍♂️🔧

It's the dedication of individuals like Jeroen that ensures Amsterdam remains both safe and breathtakingly beautiful, allowing future generations to enjoy its timeless charm.
