Meet Kelson Teo —a law student from the Netherlands who traded windmills for wushu after a life-changing trip to China. While studying at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, Teo joined the cultural exchange program ‘Quest for Roots’, diving deep into the heart of Chinese history in Xinzheng, Henan Province.
But it was the Shaolin Temple that truly blew his mind. ‘The discipline here is next-level,’ Teo said, describing young trainees practicing martial arts in scorching heat—no water breaks, just pure focus. ‘You can feel the centuries-old spirit in every move.’
For Teo, the trip wasn’t just about sightseeing. ‘It’s like the past and present are sparring partners here,’ he laughed, adding that the experience gave him newfound respect for China’s cultural legacy.
