Since August 24, Japan has been releasing nuclear-contaminated water from the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean. This move has ignited global attention and opposition.

In Peru, the concerns run deep. CGTN Stringer ventured into the streets of Peru to hear from local residents. The majority were skeptical of the Japanese government's assurances that the dumped wastewater meets safety standards and poses no threat to human health or the environment.

One resident voiced, \"If it is radioactive waste, I don't think it can be completely cleaned.\" Another added, \"There will always be residue, and it will have an impact on the ecosystem.\"

These sentiments reflect a broader unease about the long-term effects of releasing nuclear-tainted water into the ocean, highlighting the need for transparent and thorough environmental safeguards.
