Imagine being born the exact year your hometown and a distant metropolis became sister cities . That’s the fate of Quentin Foucque, a Marseille-born artist whose life became intertwined with Shanghai’s neon-lit energy. Born in 1987 – the year the two cities forged their sisterhood – Quentin’s first trip to Shanghai in 2010 sparked a love affair that’s lasted over a decade.
\"Shanghai grabs your soul,\" says the 36-year-old, who’s spent most of his adult life in the city. \"It’s like living in a sci-fi movie – skyscrapers piercing the clouds, streets buzzing 24/7, and opportunities everywhere you look.\"
But it’s not just the cityscape that captivated him. Quentin discovered a striking similarity between Shanghai residents and his Marseille neighbors: \"Both communities have this electric openness – they’ll invite you for tea, share stories, make you family.\"
Now splitting his time between painting studios and cultural exchanges, Quentin dreams of strengthening ties through tourism: \"If visa processes were smoother, imagine French cafés filled with Shanghai foodies, or Chinese travelers dancing in Marseille’s festivals!\"
