U of T Students Stage Sit-In for Gaza Ceasefire

Hundreds of students at the University of Toronto have transformed the campus’s central lawn into a sea of tents and banners since May 2, joining a wave of protests across Canadian universities demanding an end to the Israel-Gaza conflict. Their message? #CeasefireNow and solidarity with Palestinians.

In an interview with CGTN Stringer, Jewish professor Deborah Cowen emphasized unity: \"We pray together as Jewish faculty and students alongside our peers—this is about humanity, not division.\" Meanwhile, graduating student Erin shared her motivation: \"I’m lucky to walk the stage, but Gaza’s students can’t even attend classes—their universities are gone.\"

The sit-ins, mirroring actions in Ontario and Manitoba, highlight a growing youth-led push for peace. Protesters vow to stay until their calls reach global leaders.
