A magnitude-7.3 earthquake jolted the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu on Tuesday, causing extensive damage and resulting in the loss of at least 14 lives. 🌪️ The earthquake struck 30 kilometers west of Port Vila, the capital, at a depth of 57 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Tragically, two Chinese nationals were among those killed, as confirmed by the Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Li Minggang. 🇨🇳 Additionally, over 200 individuals have been injured and are receiving care at the central hospital in Port Vila.
A survivor recounted the harrowing experience: “It felt like the ground was tearing apart beneath us. One moment we were fine, and the next, everything was chaos.” 😨
