Could the future of sustainable cities grow… on a rooftop? 🌆 CGTN’s Heyang explored this question at NYU Shanghai’s experimental urban farm, where skyscrapers meet strawberry patches in a bold green experiment!
Concrete Jungle Meets Green Oasis
On a 1,500-sqm rooftop, students and professors cultivate crops while reimagining city life. ‘This isn’t just farming—it’s prototyping sustainable communities,’ said Dr. Li, an urban design professor, plucking cherry tomatoes. 🍅 The space doubles as an art studio, with installations using harvested materials.
Gen Z Digs In
Over 60% of participants are under 25. ‘We’re showing cities don’t have to choose between development and nature,’ said NYU environmental science student Mei Chen, 21. The project has inspired 18 similar micro-farms across the Chinese mainland since 2022.
As Heyang discovered, these sky-high gardens aren’t just growing veggies—they’re cultivating a greener urban future. 🌍✨
