China has escalated its emergency response in Hunan Province after a brutal cold snap disrupted daily life across multiple regions. The Ministry of Emergency Management raised Hunan’s disaster response level from IV to III on Sunday, signaling heightened risks from snow, freezing rain, and plummeting temperatures. Meanwhile, Jiangxi Province activated a level-IV response, joining 10 other regions under state-led disaster protocols.
Over 60,000 winter relief items—including quilts and coats—have been shipped to hardest-hit areas like Anhui, Hubei, and Guizhou since last week. Authorities warn the crisis isn’t over: Anhui and Hubei remain at level-III, while Hebei, Shaanxi, and six other provinces stay on high alert with level-IV measures.
This cold wave highlights China’s rapid mobilization to protect residents amid extreme weather. As temperatures drop, the world’s second-largest economy is racing to balance emergency aid with long-term climate resilience.
