Cambodia Launches Camera Traps to Revive Tigers 🐅🌿

Cambodia is rolling out a high-tech plan to bring tigers back to its jungles! 🌍 Over 400 camera traps are being installed in the Cardamom Mountains to monitor wildlife and prepare for the eventual reintroduction of big cats, officials announced Saturday. The initiative aims to reverse the 'functionally extinct' status of tigers in the country, last spotted on camera in 2007.

The project, led by the Ministry of Environment and Wildlife Alliance, will use 410 cameras spaced 1km apart to track prey populations like deer and wild boars. 📸 The data will determine if the 90-hectare Tatai Wildlife Sanctuary can sustain tigers—likely imported from India—by ensuring enough food and safe habitats.

'This isn’t just about tigers,' said ministry spokesperson Khvay Atitya. 'Healthy tiger populations mean balanced ecosystems—it’s a win for biodiversity.' The cameras will operate during both dry and rainy seasons to capture a full picture of the jungle’s readiness.

Tigers once roamed freely across Cambodia’s forests, but habitat loss and poaching wiped them out. Now, conservationists hope this tech-driven strategy could snap Cambodia’s wildlife scene back into focus. 🎯
