In a late-night drama straight out of a survival movie, eight herdsmen and over 1,000 sheep and cattle were trapped by a severe snowstorm in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The group was traveling to a settlement in the Yili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture when heavy snowfall blocked their path around midnight Friday.
Local police raced to the scene like real-life superheroes , guiding the shivering herders and animals on a three-hour trek to safety. \"We knew every minute counted,\" one officer later told reporters.
The rescue comes as Xinjiang battles extreme winter weather that's disrupted trains and stranded passengers since last week. Authorities have been providing food, hot water, and emergency support to affected travelers.
