A New Hope for Golden Monkeys
Meet the world's tiniest celebrity: a rare Guizhou snub-nosed monkey was born on March 21 at Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve in southwest China! The newborn, whose mama is named Xiao Fan (a local legend with three previous babies), is thriving under round-the-clock monitoring by conservationists.
Why This Matters
- These golden-furred cuties are found ONLY in Fanjingshan’s misty forests
- Classified as critically endangered by the IUCN – fewer than 800 remain
- Fanjingshan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as a 'biodiversity ark'
Fun fact: These monkeys are climate change warriors! Their habitat protection helps preserve entire ecosystems.
