Thousands of South Koreans flocked to Everland Resort and its zoo in Yongin to say goodbye to Fu Bao, the first naturally born giant panda in the country, amidst light rainfall on a gloomy day.
Fu Bao is set to leave South Korea on April 3, 2024, and is expected to land in Sichuan Province, southwest of the Chinese mainland, on the same day. Upon arrival, she will spend one month in quarantine at the Shenshuping Base of Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province before her further relocation.
Under the terms of the giant panda research cooperation program, all giant pandas born overseas are required to return to the Chinese mainland before turning four years old. Giant pandas typically reach maturity around four and become sexually mature.
