Infrared Cameras Capture Rare Footage of Wild Panda Cub in Sichuan

Two infrared cameras have captured heartwarming footage of a four-month-old wild giant panda cub and its mother in the Baiyang Nature Reserve located in Songpan County, southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

This marks the first time a four-month-old panda cub has been spotted in the Baiyang Nature Reserve, sparking excitement among wildlife enthusiasts. 🐼✨

The footage, recorded on February 28, shows an adult female panda gracefully walking across the screen, closely followed by her playful cub. The cub, using its short legs, carefully navigates its surroundings, seemingly eager to stay near its mother.

Another captivating scene captured on March 2 features the adult female panda making her appearance first, with the cub trailing behind as it ventures into the forest from the upper right corner of the frame.

The infrared cameras, installed by the Songpan County Forestry and Grassland Bureau, play a crucial role in observing and protecting wild animals in the region. During their forest patrols, staff members review the footage to monitor panda activities.

After thorough analysis, the bureau’s staff confirmed that both camera shots feature the same mother and her cub. According to experts, nearly half of all panda births result in twins, but it’s rare for both cubs to survive in the wild. Typically, the mother selects one cub to nurse and raise, eventually encouraging independence as the cub grows older.
