Beijing’s Biodiversity Soars with Addition of New Bird Species 🐦🌟

Beijing is celebrating a significant boost in its terrestrial wildlife population, with the number of species increasing from 608 to 612 this year. 🐾 According to the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau, this growth includes 519 bird species, highlighting the city's commitment to preserving its natural heritage.

The latest additions to Beijing's avian community are the black baza, the Oriental magpie-robin, the black-throated bushtit, and the Himalayan cuckoo. These four new bird species not only enrich the local biodiversity but also attract birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts from around the world. 🌍✨

Situated along the vital bird migration route between East Asia and Australasia, Beijing serves as a crucial stopover for many rare and endangered species. During the spring migration season, birds like the oriental stork, Chinese merganser, and white-tailed sea eagle grace the skies over the city, showcasing the ongoing ecological improvements in the Chinese capital.

A staffer with the bureau emphasized that years of dedicated efforts to develop natural protected areas—such as forests, wetlands, and geological parks—have created a comprehensive system that safeguards over 90 percent of Beijing's major wildlife and habitats. 🌿🏞️ These measures not only protect the environment but also ensure that both residents and visitors can enjoy the rich natural beauty that Beijing has to offer.
