Transforming Farming Could Slash Global Emissions by 33% 🌱🌍

Changing the way we produce food globally could significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions by the end of the decade, according to the World Bank. 🌾🌎

The agrifood industry is responsible for nearly a third of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. 📉 Two-thirds of these emissions come from middle-income countries, which dominate the top 10 greenhouse gas emitters.

\"To protect our planet, we need to transform the way we produce and consume food,\" said Axel van Trotsenburg, Senior Managing Director of the World Bank. 🌿

The report highlights that the agrifood sector has a massive opportunity to reduce global emissions by almost a third through affordable and readily available actions. It urges nations to invest more in tackling this crucial issue. 💪

Middle-income countries are encouraged to adopt low-emissions livestock practices and use land more sustainably. 🌱✨ \"Simply changing how these countries use land, such as forests and ecosystems, for food production can cut agrifood emissions by a third by 2030,\" van Trotsenburg added.

To fund the transition to less-emitting methods, the report suggests that countries consider eliminating some wasteful agricultural subsidies. 🌾💡 High-income countries, like the United States, should provide more technical assistance and shift subsidies away from high-emitting food sources.

Meanwhile, low-income countries are advised to avoid building high-emissions infrastructure that high-income nations are now aiming to replace. 🌍🔄
