Sumatra Floods Devastate West Sumatra: 67 Lives Lost and Thousands Evacuated

🌧️ **Tragedy Strikes West Sumatra as Floods Claim 67 Lives**

Over the weekend, severe flash floods and mudslides hit Indonesia's West Sumatra province, resulting in a heartbreaking death toll of 67. Authorities report that 20 individuals are still missing, with five of the previously missing now confirmed dead.

In response to the disaster, more than 4,000 residents have been evacuated to nearby buildings and temporary shelters to ensure their safety. The devastation is widespread, with at least 521 houses, nearly 32,000 hectares of land including rice fields, 19 bridges, and most main roads suffering significant damage.

BNPB head Suharyanto announced that the government is planning to relocate survivors from areas deemed unlivable and other disaster-prone regions. Efforts are currently underway to gather data on the number of survivors needing relocation and to identify safe areas for constructing new homes.
